Black Jewel is black led and black serving nonprofit organization.

Embracing our culture is a source of strength, resilience. and empowerment for individuals and our community at large.  Gaining a deeper understanding of our heritage and culture shapes our cultural identity  and  enables us to challenge stereotypes, misconceptions and racism.  We  must advocate for  spaces that stimulates our sense of belonging  and pride within the Black Community.

We invite you to journey with us as we establish Black Jewel Community Arts and Culture.. We envision a space that transcends the traditional boundaries of a cultural center. A gathering space is dedicated to community engagement  that will stand as a beacon of Black culture and heritage.

Building Up Our Community

Building a strong community starts with a shared vision, open communication, and inclusive spaces where everyone feels valued. It thrives on trust, participation, and leadership, encouraging members to connect, support one another and take an active role in shaping their environment.

The Power of Seven in Community

According to the 2016 Census, more than 51,000 Black residents call Durham Region home—one of the largest Black communities in the Greater Toronto Area.

Culture is our bridge from the past to the present. It connects us, sustains us, and strengthens the shared values crucial to our resilience and empowerment . We believe that culture and community are at the heart of transformation. Guided by this vision, we are committed to creating safe, vibrant spaces for healing, celebration, education, and growth.

Through the Power of Seven we are raising vital support for workshops, events, and creative programs that will nourish, strengthen, and empower the Black community in Durham and beyond. Together, we can ensure that the legacy of our culture continues to inspire generations—past, present, and future.

🌟 This is the Power of Seven. 🌟
